Welcome

My name is Astrid Hopfensitz and I am currently a lecturer in economics (maitre de conference) at the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) in France and program director in psychology at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST). Since 2017 I am also member of the Institute Universitaire de France (IUF).
My main research interest concerns the influence of emotions and psychological dimensions on economic decision making and behavior. I use economic experiments in combination with psychological methods. In recent years I have been interested in topics related to social ties and social intelligence. For example I have studied situations where players have to decide whether to trust another person (for a video introduction see here) and decisions taken by families especially spouses (for a video see here).
Before I came to Toulouse I studied applied mathematics (Wirtschaftsmathematik) at the University of Ulm, Germany and economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I did my PhD in experimental economics at CREED, the experimental economics lab at the University of Amsterdam. After my PhD I did my Postdoc at the interdisciplinary center on affective sciences (CISA) in Geneva.
When I am not working, traveling or playing with my children Lucie and Emil I enjoy reading, drawing, painting and making mosaics out of plates and cups I buy on the flea-market. I also took up sewing when my kids where small which resulted in a collection of soft cuddly toys. Since the 2020 pandemic I started to do pottery. To have a look at some of them see here.
